Wearable monitoring can transform rehabilitation and chronic care — but only if devices are comfortable, affordable, and maintainable. Lessons from the Vygux prototyping bench.

The most sophisticated wearable in the world is useless in a drawer. Adherence — whether people keep wearing the device — is the quiet variable that decides whether monitoring delivers any value at all. It is also the variable most often ignored.

At Vygux, comfort, affordability, and maintainability are treated as engineering requirements, not afterthoughts.

Comfort is a feature, not a finish

Bulky, awkward, or irritating hardware gets abandoned within days. We prototype enclosures, straps, and skin contact with the people expected to wear them for hours — iterating on weight, breathability, and fit before we optimize anything else.

Affordable by design

Every component is chosen with cost and availability in mind. The aim is a device a clinic can deploy at scale and a patient can be trusted to keep — not a flagship that never leaves the demo table.

Built to be maintained

Technology that cannot be maintained does not last in the real world. We design for it:

  • Field-replaceable parts and standard, rechargeable batteries
  • Simple, forgiving charging and setup
  • Clear failure modes that a non-specialist can resolve

A device that survives the first month of real life is worth more than one that wins a spec sheet.
